The Vermilion Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the date of our second annual Wiener Dog Race. All you two-person pet crews start getting revved up for the second annual Wiener Dog Race on March 24 at the Abbeville Municipal Airport.
Pre-registration is available for all events in the Wiener Dog Races. Register your Wiener for the “Cocktail Wiener Race,” the “Ball Park Frank Race,” or the “Hot Dog Race.” Don’t have a dachshund? BUT you have a Wannabee! Register your Wannabee for the “Wannabee One Race” or the “Wannabee Too” race.
This year we have added more contests to the event: Most Glamorous with “Bling” contest, Most Creative Pet Trick contest, Best Sports Fan contest, Longest Wiener contest (wieners only), and Shortest Wiener contest (wieners only.) Your registration fees will cover any additional contest you would like to enter your wiener or wannabee.
In addition we have added a Hot Dogs and Hot Rods event.
Pet owners and their wieners or wannabees will check in at 8:00 am. Activities will begin at 10:00 a.m.
All pet owners must make sure to have all the dog's shots up to date. Shots include distemper, rabies and Parvo. Local veterinarians are aware of the race and are ready to assist with any shots needed. All pet owners will need to clean up after their dogs and have all medications on hand since there will be no registered nurse or doctor on hand.
The two-person pet crew will consist of one person holding the dog at the starting line and one person catching the dog at the finish line. The finish line crew member can bring toys, snacks or whatever item is necessary to entice the animal to race toward them.
Registration fee is $20 per wiener or wannabee if registered and postmarked by March 25. On the day of the races (March 26), registration will be $25 per wiener or wannabee. An application is needed for every dog entering the races. Applications can be obtained at the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce office at 1907 Veterans Memorial Drive, Abbeville, LA.
Volunteers are still needed. Vendor spaces are available, and there are Sponsorships open as well.
In addition to the positive publicity you will receive by sponsoring this unique, popular fundraiser, you will be helping the citizens and animals of our community. Fifty percent of your sponsorship will help Animal Aid for Vermilion. Money is desperately needed for veterinary care for animals, for basic operating expenses for the organization, and for expenses for transporting animals to rescue organizations. The other fifty percent will help with the maintenance and operation of the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce.
The President’s Coffee meeting is a very informal meeting held in the morning before your business day begins—7:30 am – 8:30 am. Ideally, we would like to have about 6 – 8 members come to the Chamber office for a brainstorming session. This is your morning to let your Chamber President know your concerns and share your ideas for the Chamber. Members attending are asked to share their thoughts on the following questions.
* What business challenges are you facing right now?
* What change(s) is your business/organization experiencing?
* How can the Chamber best assist you?
* Comments/Suggestions
Area chefs will prepare their favorite menu items from one of four food categories—soup, salad, entrée, and dessert.
Spend an enjoyable evening with friends and associates and help the Chamber, all at the same time. Sounds like a winner! For more information or to order tickets for this popular fall event, call the Chamber office at 893-2491.
Thank you for your help in spreading the word!
